Goin' boatless
« on: October 18, 2009, 08:04:10 AM »
Four couples of us have an annual trip to Pomme de Terre this time of year to fish for sandies.  I am for the first time going boatless since mine is in the glass shop and will be for a couple of weeks or longer.  I hope someone has an empty back seat every day or I'll be bank fishing.

It is really hard to decide what to take and what to leave at home.  I have always had all the storage in the world in my boat and now I am limited to what will fit in the back seat of my truck.

It must be bewildering trying to choose which gear to take, after having max storage space on your personal rig.  Hope they get it fixed soon.  Good luck on your upcoming trip!

It was cold & wet yestarday so I didn't feel like launching the kayak,..however I did spend a little while casting from an elevated platform just off the shore at my local lake.  I took a dropshot rod and a jig rod with me and the platform allowed me to cast to a pretty wide area including some riprap, an inner & outer weedline as well as a deeper hole.  Might have been the cold & wet conditions or the fact that I wasn't getting bit,..but I found that I just got bored with it very quickly being in a fixed spot versus moving around on the water,.........
So good luck JM,...and I hope that you can find a boater to take you out every time there during your trip!! ;)

Well we went from bad to worse.  Bigfoot and I took his boat 16 miles up river and caught 1 spot, 4 lmb, 8 smb, 1 drum and 82 sandies.  We thought we had the bull by the horns till his motor blew on the way back to my truck.

We spent 2 extra hours getting back and didn't get to go out again.  The other 2 guys fished a bit but didn't catch much as they really need help finding fish and we were in the campground.

I just talked to the glass shop.  My boat is inside with the rub rail off and grinding starting.  The welder is there and will work on my trailer today or tomorrow.

With a little luck and some help from God, I'll be back in business by the end of next week.  LOOK OUT FISH!!!! >:D >:D

I do more bank fishing than I do from the boat, and find that I need to walk the bank, or around the entire lake at city park, when things get slow, and sometimes still don't get a bite.  Happens to me on the water also sometimes, but always tell myself at least I was outside and not in the office/classroom.   ;)

There was no way to bank fish this bite.  The activity is about 15 miles up river and there has been lots of rain so water is everywhere.  There are way too many bushes around the edges for bank fishing.  I did try in one of the campgrounds where there are no bushes to speak of.  There also were no fish.
