Have they gone deeper?
« on: October 07, 2006, 07:47:29 AM »
The wife and I went back to the local fishing hole (city park) again after work yesterday.  Have had some luck there recently, however, the weather turned real cool over the past couple of days (high about 67 degrees).  Had a pretty good breeze blowing yesterday so we moved over to the other side where the wind would be at our backs, thus enabling us to cast quite a ways out into the deeper water (5'-6' maybe).  No bites at all!  Do you think the weather change turned them off?    :scratch

Thursdays paper still showed Kentucky lakes temp. at 72 deg. So the water temperature should not have driven them deeper yet. If your superstitious, the wind was out of the East.
Bright sunshine might have pushed them down a bit if you have clear water but the wind should have mitigated that. Wind at your back was most likely the problem. The baitfish are moving up and so are the bass. Shallow should be the answer and casting into the wind should help.
Maybe?

Thanks for the tip Scott.   Yep, blowing hard from the East yesterday, and chilly too.  Nope, not superstitous, unless you consider walking under ladders, broken mirrors, etc, lol.  Just kidding, I just wanted to catch some fish   :)

I think Pondhopper is right in that you guys had the wind at your backs instead of in-your-face.
Casting is a pain, but the wind-driven side is usually the most active.

yep it blows the baitfish into that side, should fish the wind blown banks.

Will give it a try, although the water is real shallow there and over-grown with weeds.  Even weightless you drag in all kinds of bottom "snot" with each cast.

If your superstitious, the wind was out of the East.

When the wind's from the east...the fish bite the least

When the wind's from the west...the fish bite the best

When the wind's from the north...only the brave and hardy go forth

When the wind's from the south...it blows the bait right into their mouths

Okay, I'm not trying to sound like a wise-guy but the wind does not blow baitfish anywhere. (I used to think the same thing) What it does is blow the zooplankton and small things like that which the baitfish follow and of course the bigger fish follow them. :)
I don't know if the bass have gone deeper but it may be due to the fact that you were fishing from the side the wind was blowing from or perhaps the lake is fixing to go through transition and they are moving because of that.
