Headed to Lewis Smith tomorrow
« on: October 13, 2008, 11:23:28 AM »
.. for some guided striper fishing.    First time ever to intentionally target stripe.

Hopefully we can catch some good ones and I can bring home some good pictures.

Cool, what size are in there? are they natural or hybrid stripers?

what methods do they use?

I think both natural and hybrid.   I hear its not uncommon to get some 30-40 lbs.

Not sure what method we are going to use to catch them.

Smith is a huge and very deep lake.

http://www.stripefishingheadquarters.com/ and http://www.rockcreekstripers.com/  has some good pictures of Smith Lake stripers.   (This is not who is taking me out)

Unfortunately (and always my luck) they were really hard to find today.

We only bagged 5, all between 9 and 13 lbs.

There are only saltwater stripe at Smith Lake I found out.   And I also found out that they don't fight near as well as the hybrids, but still a lot of fun to catch.

We caught all in 40-50 ft of water fishing in 100-200 ft of water.

Striper Guide Service on Smith Lake and Wayne Sorensen was our guide. 205-631-5772.   He said the day before they loaded the boat and found lots of schools (my luck of course)

Here are the only pics I have of the fish...

The last pic is so everyone will know what pretty much ALL of Smith looks like.
