help catching carp
« on: June 21, 2007, 09:16:17 PM »
well seems my 5 kids are getting bored of the little suckers, red eyes, blue gills & small mouth in the river ever since they spotted 7-8 carp ranging from maybe 15-over 20" swimming around there fishing hole last 4-5 days.I need some advice to what to catch these on. I'm dying to see one of them hook them carp, they like go crazy over the 4-7" fish they been catching lol. Any advice is helpful, & thanks in advance todd.  ( I'll get some pics of them catching the carps & post if they ever hook into one of them )

HRTodd, The only way I know to go after them is to bait them with corn. You establish a area and keep it in scattered corn kernels for a few days until they are constantly in the area and then you string several kernals on a 1 or 1/0 hook and cast it out in the same area. Then hold on, They do fight and make long runs. Carp do not tire like small bass ,trout, or panfish do, especially on light lines (8-10 LB test). A 20 inch carp will keep you on edge for about 10 minutes.

sweet corn...don't be afraid to chum the area with it as well. Most simple bait i hear being used.

There's also some baits called boilies, which are probably the best bait for carps.http://www.k-1boilies.com/ is an excellent bait for these carps.BUT if you use these baits..make sure you watch the kids(they might not be able to handle a carp in good size)...because these baits are known to pull in some HUGH CARPS!Boilies are rigged with a hair rig set up.Guys here who use this bait catch 20# + carps in our waters...and those carps are hard fighters!

I go to a website strictly for carping as i want to try it myself one day...right now i don't have a set up for these carps and i'm not using my expensive bass stuff...lol
Magic lures don't exist.
