It was good while it lasted
« on: December 02, 2009, 08:02:47 AM »
Since my boat is still in the glass shop I have been bumming rides with an old friend.  He has quit bass fishing (burnout from 30 years of tournaments).

So we have been fishing for sandies and specs.  We have been having days in the 40s to high 60s range and the fishing has been what I consider very good.  We have been catching 40-50 crappie up to 15" and as many as 15 walleye per trip.

He says on a really good day it will be over 100 crappie and close to 50 walleye.  I've been waiting for that day.  However, the weather has taken a turn for the worse.  It is supposed to rain this morning and snow this afternoon.  The temps are supposed to be ranging from teens to low to mid 30s.  I sure do hope a warm spell come in behind early old man winter.

Raining and colder here now too Jig Man. That is why my buddy and I went out yesterday. We did not catch them like we hoped we would but still had an okay day. A few small bass but no picture fish.

Close buzz.  I have them with jalapeños, brown beans and cornbread.  I don't add much of the other stuff so I can eat more fish that way. :D

Yes they are Steve.  I haven't been to Pom in a couple of weeks.  The last time there all our fish had left the river and returned to the lake.  The lake was still coffee colored.

That's a heckuva slab for sure.  We always waited for the water to get cold, with icefishing being the best, to go after the Specs (haven't heard anyone call them that in yrs) 'cuz the meat is firmer and has a better taste.  Seems to cook up nicer too...

The only thing I have against crappie is the mushyness of the meat.  I like to cook fish till it floats then eat it.  With these I have to let them brown and crisp up a bit.  We don't get enough cold weather for ice fishing.
