Keeping your bait fresh
« on: July 30, 2006, 08:18:49 AM »
What do y'all do to keep your bait "fresh"? For instance, when using nightcrawlers or red worms this is what I do: Rinse worms free of dirt and place in coffee can, put in cooler with ice around bottom third of can, put another can next to it with clean water in it. When you get a worm out of the can dip it in the water can then put on hook. I learned this from a guide on Lake Erie. Our worms stayed fresh and active all day long and it was a scorcher. ;)

I have used this method a couple of times but then I don't fish with worms much.

Only time i fished with them is when we walley fished and trout. when we fish for gills i use sponge spiders and then sometimes mill or wax worms.
