Latest Lures I made on the New BPS 2006 Catalog!
« on: December 29, 2005, 03:05:41 AM »
yee hah! Just got my BPS Catalog today!

My wife's uncle in CA sent me an article about the new state record for trout caught by a youngster. He is a bass angling fanatic as we all are but he told me he wanted to try his hand at trout fishing so I made a few inline spinners for him. The wires were formed by hand and I made the tails for the trebles also. They're headed to California!

The fluffy looking things are marabou jigs I tied using the "palmered" method. They look ugly here because I let the feathers dry and didn't groom them. They do however have an excellent wavy action when in the water. I am going to add Joe's trailers to some that I will tie on 1/4 oz and bigger lead heads just to see if they'll work for bass.? If the weather permits (no rain) I will be doing some serious field testing.? ;D

GL,

I was serious. ;) It would be better in way that I didn't have one because:

1) I'd be spending more time on the "throne" than necessary.
2) Spend too much money on things that I want and do not need. (I do need a Chronarch B though  ;D)

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm headed to the throne. ;D

Islandbass you got me thinking about making inline spinner baits.

Where do you get you materials from.

I have some great idea's and they are not going to get made unless I make them.

George

I have the time but not the money but lets see what you come up with.

Hey George,

I am glad I decided to mozy on into this section.

Fortunately, making inline spinners is very cheap.

You can get most of the supplies you need from online shops like Stamina and Janns and local shops.  Of the two online shops, I like to order things from Stamina. Their service and products are such that I felt no need to go anywhere else. I will be checking out Jann's stuff soon for some crank blanks though.

The wire diameter I used for the ones I sent you were either 0.024" and 0.031" I think. Basically, the thinner, the more vibration and the less durable and vice versa as you go thicker in diameter.

The only tool you need minimum is a pair of round nose pliers and the basic parts are:

blade
clevis (Stirrups are the best. leave folded clevises for mono line spinners.)
wire
body
beads for adornment and spacing
hook (treble or single siwash)

Things to keep in mind:
As a rule of thumb, most inline spinner makers prefer to have the blade extend ever so slightly past the over body of the lure.
The bushy tails are a nice added touch, but bottom line, spinners without the dressed trebles will also catch fish as Gman found out for us. Right on, G! Not using dressed trebles will save you time.

Let me know if you have any other questions.  Making spinners is also a great way I get my daughter involved. She chooses the color schemes. Good luck!

Thanks islandbass for information for getting started making in line spinner baits.

Just went to Stamina lot of interesting information, I think I can make some great looking spinnerbaits.

Thanks again.
