Minnow trap bait?
« on: June 15, 2011, 07:49:33 AM »
The pond I am fishing in now has a pretty decent population of minnows. I'd like to set out a trap to catch a few and see how I can do using the minnows as bait. I've always had decent success using bread, but it disintegrates after less than a day. Any suggestions on a bait that won't fall apart so quickly? Some times, it's a few days before I can get back to the trap and I'd like to find something to use that will last a bit longer.

Thanks, guys!

Put your bait in a section of panty hose.

I've heard you can use dog food? I can't vouch for it though as I've never used a minnow trap

Bread slices work, but not for long.   Try toasting the slices first.   Instead of slices you can try a chunk of Italian/French bread.   You can also use dry dog or cat food, and egg shells.
