My Salmon outing.
« on: February 25, 2007, 07:09:00 PM »
This was taken in October. My womans sisters Husband and I go up to Lake Huron once a year and stay out all night long in waders fishing for Salmon as they make their annual run near shore to spawn. This year was the worst we only caught two after being out there in the water 8 and a half hours straight. For those who have never done this it truely is an expierence and you should try it atleast one time. We put mini glow sticks on the end of our line to dip in front of us as were stepping around then remove them most the time when we cast. The reason for doing this is to check the water depth in front of you. Trust me when I tell you this, you do not want to step into a drop off and you deffinatly do not want to on Lake Huron. People have a lot of wrong ideas about Salmon and why they eat your bait or other things. While when its this time of year they have only one thing on their minds and thats to spawn. They dont want to eat, they dont want to do anything else, but spawn. So how do you catch them? You throw out egg sacks, Salmon eat these because they eat other Salmons eggs so they can lay their own, etc. What most Salmon anglers dont know is that you can effectively catch them on lures. I almost positive I caught these on a Rapala Husky Jerk in Rainbow Trout. Well if they only come to spawn and dont want to eat why would you throw that lure? Well, they will eat rainbow trout for one reason. Rainbow Trout in the area will invade their nest and eat their eggs. So while the Salmon are protecting their eggs if a Rainbow Trout comes near they will attack. Salmon are one of the only fish ill catch and keep to eat. Bass always get released just to put it out there. Alright ill shut up now and show the pictures  They didnt really turn out too good and I look super young in the picture for some reason probably cus im frozen! These are small compared to what we have caught..
