Need help withidentifying a fish
« on: May 07, 2006, 06:13:07 PM »
So I recently started freshwater fishing here in West Palm Beach FL. My stepson andI catch blue gill, redear sunfish, crappie, largemouth bass and about 3 other types of fish but I have no idea what they are. I have a pic of one of the fish we catch. This one is one of the bigger ones we caught. I thought it was a peacock bass  but it has some decent size teeth on it I wouldn't think of lipping it like I have seen people do with peacocks. Well here are the pictures if anyone can help I appreciate it. If it matters the place we fish is a small lake that is around our house it is fed by local canals that also feed the lakes at the local park.

If a man says something in the woods and there are no women around to hear him, is he still wrong?

it has teeth I would not lip it like a bass. I will try and use my digital camera and get a close up of its mouth. Thanks

Mouth makes it look like an Oscar. Coloration is similar. I've heard of Oscars being in the FL canals.

Thanks guys... We are going fishing after work today or tomorrow. I will try and bring my digital camera and get better pics and pics of the mouth and see if I can show you the teeth.

Yup, that's another of the many kinds of Oscar, or Cichlids.

Very cool. I always thought cichlids stayed under 12", maybes those are ones that are for the aquarium.

Thats because of the size of the tank.
