panfishing
« on: October 09, 2009, 11:13:00 AM »
does anybody ever just target panfish?..i do at this creek by my mother's house..all the fish are pretty small and i never expect a monster or anything so i usually take my UL gear.
its alot of fun..i'll fish for anything and sometimes i can get a decent bass. the creek is called cedar run and its loaded with so many different species so its always a suprise..long story short:fish dont have to be big for me to enjoy catching them

I mess around at certain times of year for other species, in the winter months the crappies load up in a few coves and you can nail them.

Nice fish.

I don't eat fish, just don;t like the taste, but people love crappies, say they taste great.

Yup i do......

I love panfishing as much as i do bass fishing. It's probably the cheapest fishing sport as well, because you really don't need much gear or high end gear to catch them on.

Use super small hooks, light line and a small bobber. So many people mess up on one of those three things resulting too many panfish missed bites.

I use a 6' m rhino indestructible rod and a quantum sx 10f ultra light reel rigged with 2# test trilene XL. I'll be looking for a lighter rod sooner or later when i catch back up on my bills.
Magic lures don't exist.

I'll bust out the UL gear and wade a creek here in Al a couple of times a year and I love it. I'll catch everything from bass, bream, catfish, sunfish, and all sorts of suckerfish. I'll back up e_bass on the crappie thing, they are delicious but there is not a lot of meat to fillet but they're good.
