Summer fishing in FL?
« on: May 15, 2006, 06:40:55 PM »
Is bass fishing still good in summer down here in FL? I fish from shore because we have no boat. Besides bass panfish should be biting, correct? I fish a local man made lake and a man made canal. Thanks
If a man says something in the woods and there are no women around to hear him, is he still wrong?

I have found bass fishing to be good in Florida in the summer. I was fishing the lakes over  at Ashton Lakes in Sarasota. :)

Hmmm I dunno just a lil baffled.

Sal, where I was fishing I used a 7" worm, Texas-rigged. I believe they were the "Slider" brand. :)

I didn't have a boat either. I caught all my fish from the bank. :) In the middle of the day I would catch some from the reeds where the water was shady thus cooler.

I'm from the jacksonville, FL area. I usually rish rodman resevoir, lake george (and it's creeks)....around the ocala, FL area mostly. The fish bite all year round. You just have to know how to fish them. During this time of year (post-spawn) they are in deeper water and senkos, crankbaits, jigs etc.. anything that will get down there does good. If you fish shallow lakes (like i do alot) then jigs and texas rigged senkos are good for fishing cover. They are a bit harder to catch post-spawn, but when it gets during the actual dog days of summer around here they are easy and fun as anything to catch.

Not alot of cover here and shallow water. Fishing has slowed down a lot but I found out in the evening as sun sets topwater works well.

oh yea....if you fish shallow lakes....there's nothing like night fishing during the hot days. I usually fish a small lake in locklossa, fl at night (easy to navigate and i know every tree and creek in there from memory. When the water starts to cool in the afternoon they come out from under the cover (there is a long strip of bank with heavy cover, but deeper water)....it's kind of hard to get them to come out when the water temps get into the 90's....but at night....top water poppers and buzzbaits are GREAT. zara spooks seem to be the best or a mouse (running it across that heavy cover and then into the water).

plus having to fish by ear and feel on topwater....there's nothing like it!
