The Bream are bitin' in Va.
« on: May 17, 2011, 10:39:46 AM »
Hey, guys. I just joined the forum and my intro post is in the new member section.

I have access to a coupla' farm ponds that I fish. The bream have started biting and I'm havin' a blast catchin' 'em!

My method is a # 6 snelled hook tied directly to the line, bait it with half a night crawler and flip it out as far as the weight of the worm will take it. Close the bail and let it settle. Normally, it won't stay on the bottom more than a minute. Sometimes, it doesn't make it to the bottom.

They're scrappy little things and on a 5 ft. ultralight, they're a lot of fun.

Most of the time, I release all of them. On occasion, though, I might bring home a mess of them if I'm finding some bigger ones.

Thats a dandy.  This is one thing I need to do again.  Tons of fun with an UL.

I still do it from time to time every year. Bluegills are one of the only species that will readily bite all year round. We have Bass season here,so it's not uncommon to find me out there fishing for them when bass is out of season when the ice thaws out.

Every year me and a guy go out to this little lake and catch probably somewhere in the hundreds during summer. I can rack up over a 1000 count pretty quickly in numbers on these little guys. They definitely put up a fight! I've been fishing these fish since I was 6...and I still do fish for them. :)
Magic lures don't exist.
