The learning curve is getting smaller
« on: November 17, 2010, 04:45:47 PM »
Bigfoot and I are using our structure scans to record banks which we like to fish.  Then we go back and study the recordings.  We both find more places sitting in the boat in the garage looking at the recordings than we ever could on the water.

When we find a likely looking tree or brush pile, we mark a wpt right there on the recording.  This is sooo cool to be able to do that then go back and fish the marked places.

Today we fished a couple of banks on Pommy that he had recorded and studied.  We don't mess with areas between the wpts.  We fish the dickens out of the marked areas.  We had a double limit in three wpts.  We probably caught 70 crappie with at least 60 of them being keepers.  When it started to rain at 1:00 pm we decided that it was time to go home and clean dinner. ;D

Now if I can just transfer the learning to sandies in Jan and Feb then to LMB and SMB in the spring. :)

I think that is a great skill to learn and tool to use to enhance the fishing experience. Sure beats being stuck on the shore facing winter conditions. ;D

Them poor fish don’t have a chance!

I’m wondering though what someone driving by your place must think when they see two grown men sitting in a boat in a garage. “Look at them old timers maw. Sittin in their boat playin fishing game videos. Maybe next spring we can invite them out on the pontoon rig, just to get them away from them games for awhile”. ;D

Are you marking the likely looking spots "on the water' or "in the garage" ?

Do the Lowrance recordings go to the "hard drive" of the unit or to an SD card?

Either way you are ARE being careful not paint yourself into a corner, aren't you ?  Ha, ha , ha !

Great job, make sure to post up a pic this winter of that fryin pan !

Steve we are marking at both places.

The Low wpts go to the head.  I have files for all the lakes and keep them on a card and 2 places in the puter as well as the head.  I delete all files and load up appropriate ones when changing lakes.

Good to hear the curve is getting smaller Jig Man! Not a Lo, but we had a guy at our last bass club meeting that was very very sharp with the newer hummingbirds. He also had some software on his PC that he went through with us that he downloaded off the internet and could do all-kinds-of studys and planning, measuring, etc. with it. Really neat what you can do with these "depth-finders" these days  ;D

Since I don't actually have one of those bird units, I wish a few of our club members that had them would respond here and fill you guys in, if mothing more than the program download info and such for the newer "birds".

I'll see if I can coax one (or more) of them over here to help you guys out....no promises though.
