This could be the last
« on: January 12, 2012, 10:45:35 AM »
warm day of the winter.  Yesterday BigT and I went to Bull Shoals lake.  It was 40° when we arrived at 8 and 58° when we left at 3:30.  Today we have near white out conditions with blowing snow and a high predicted in the low 20s.  Cold weather is in the forcast for the next several days.

We were looking for white bass and caught some on the first bar that we fished.  There was wind blowing from the NW and a strong current on the water as BS was pulling and Table Rock was ginning.  The wind and current off set each other and we were virtually able to set the boat in a spot and not move up or down stream.  The fish were in the 15-20' range.

We wound up catching several different species: (real) perch, walleye, spots, and whites.  We caught and released 36 white bass.  At least 3 of them were over 4#.  With this being Jan we have high hopes for the late winter and early spring on this bitty pond.

Here are a few pics of the fish.

That perch is a pretty fish.   I wonder why we dont have those down this way.   Same goes for smallmouth.

Jack as far as I know this is the only place that we have that species.  We find them once in a while but never had seen them until about 10 years ago when the white bass population died down.

Nice going Dayne ! Great pics. We are getting the cold and blowing snow here too.   :D  It's OK with me cause as far as I'm concerned it'll only reinforce the jerkbait bite some more. I got Dickey outa here just in time to get the boat in the garage. ( Too much junk).  I think that's real cool when you get on a structure and load up with several different species.  That doesn't happen too often throwing jerkbaits.

Buzz I caught most of mine on the little stinger bait that I make.  I was using a blue/white pearl with a chartreuse 1/4 oz head.  Big T was using a white pearl slider with a chartreuse tail and an orange head.  They went off those baits and I started switching and found they would hit an electric chicken swimming minnow with a chartreuse head.

Since I did the contest with you guys making colors of stingers, I have learned how to do laminates and have close to 30 colors now.  I use the stinger more than anything else as it seems all species will hit the thing and I enjoy making them.

Hopefully soon i will get to again give those you made me a go at the little crappie hole i try each year out of the two man. I'm geared up. I've got some of that small dia. braid spooled up on two rigs already(which works great btw!). White is a staple color there, so they should do well ....if i can ever locate them.

If you get the chance, i'd like to see the laminants

Here you go buzz.  These are some of the latest ones I have made.  Every one of them has put fish in the boat.  It is surprising just how many bass of all three species in our area are taking them along with whites, walleye, and crappie.

All of those look really good, Jig Man! The white/pearl w silver glitter ones that i have, i put chart. dip'n dye on the top part somewhat like the top left one. I have caught a couple of small bass on them just not any crappie, yet. That's my target with them in the little hole i go to sometimes.
