I went to Lay Lake Saturday to kinda scout around, the water is anywhere from 36-43 degrees depending on where you are. We put in at Beeswax and ran WAAAAAYYY upriver. I could see Logan Martin Dam from where we were. I'm guessing 20 miles from Beeswax. Anyway, at our second stop, I got an Overheat alarm, I'm thinkin how do you overheat in 38 degree water anyway. So we fish a while, then I crank up, everything seems fine, I got water pressure and the motor is peeing strong, so off we go. We get back almost to the steam plant when she gave it up. I thought I blew up the motor. After many hours of using the trolling motor, we get to beeswax, get it out and start looking at it. No holes in the block, pulled the plugs, tops of pistons look good, so I try turnin it over putting my thumbs over the sparkplug holes to see if I had compression, it did. So the guy I was with says it sounded like something let go in the foot, so I pull the plug out of the lower unit, and water runs out..............So, lower unit is gone to lower unit heaven. I did find a new one in Atlanta, but I guess I hafta work a little overtime so I can get it. Bad feeling to be stranded on the lake when its raining and cold.
