Trouty the Rainbow Trout.
« on: January 13, 2007, 08:37:40 PM »
Here I was, on the lake where I got my first nibble. It was 3:50, Bunzen Lake Reservoir gates close at 4:30. Some nice guy adviced us to cut down our shrimp, but it's been awhile since I casted. We decided to pack up, and I began to reel in. Then I felt a strong pull on my line, then noticed some resistance as I reeled in. There it was, my first catch: A full-grown Rainbow trout.

We put him in a bucket and waited for more bites, no luck after that. Then we went home and took pictures of me and my first catch, which I named "Trouty".

Trouty survived 15 minutes out of the water. I put him in our sink at the kitchen.

Trouty died a few hours ago. Now he lies in our kitchen, cleaned and gutted.

Trout for dinner!!

Thanks ^^ We weren't expecting to catch him. Good thing that other guy told us how to do things right. He and his son caught what looks like a sardine, which they let go, and following that a Rainbow as well. Ours was bigger though. I'm waiting for my parents to get home...I'm curious of what it tastes like.

I did try a trout bait today, but it turned out we put too much on the hook and it wouldn't fit in a trout's mouth. Switched to shrimp, and some one noticed it was big and then told us to cut it even smaller. That's when I got the Rainbow.

By the way, I ate it just a few minutes ago...It tastes great! One of the tastiest fish I've eaten *Catfish is still # 1 though ^_^*

To eat Trout created two problems for me.

1.)  Ate regularly for 15 years went trout fishing only, no other kind
of fishing for them 15 years, tired and burned out on them.

2.)  Never could get use to the bones, to me they are a boney fish.

I also use to bake them in the oven with green & red onions, potato's, and some spices, trick to baking them is when you clean them you leave the heads on and when the trouts eye ball fall out or turn to silver looking the fish is done.( I bet no one ever heard of that )

You see, we learn something new everyday :read Thanks for that tip George. When I used to catch a lot of trout we fried them in a beer batter. Course I was to young to drink any of the beer ::)

Good catch, Bluegill !   :)

Supposedly, they (state) stocks trout each year in city park lake where I go quite a bit.  I've only seen one caught there, and the fellow was using a fly fishing rig.

Shrimp!? I never knew that. Good story, thanks for sharing. Post up a picture sometime. I only got into trout fishing about 2 years ago. It's more fun than I thought it would be. I fish for them in the stocked streams around here. Never caught one in a pond yet. I'd think in a pond would be more of a challenge than my stocked streams.

Yeah, they favor shrimp and power-baits.

NO!!!! I lost half of my rod! I lent it to this french guy, who gave us a lead fish weight and better floater. He was trying to show us how far my cast can go now...except when he casted the line broke and sent half of my rod flying. This more experienced guy who was also fishing with us got the floated back for us, but the lead weight and 2nd part of my rod is down in the lake bed.

He was so sorry he gave me a small rod :D You just it down and make it's line go deep and hopefully catch something.

Then I got a new one few hours ago...It says "SR100" on it, dunno if that says what kind of rod it was.

Oh and I do have pictures of the Rainbow trout...Alive and dead. We forgot to take a picture of him being eaten.

Hm...I haven't caught one in a pond either. It's mostly streams, rivers and lakes here.

Hmm...Maybe it's easier to catch in a pond, since it's smaller, the fish have limited area to swim in, right? Where in a lake they can go anywhere...AWAY from the docks(Like what happened to me yesterday)

Bluegill and All,

Sorry fellas! Especially you Bluegill. That post I had in here about pond -vs- lake wasn't supposed to be in this thread!! I don't know how I got it in here, it was (and still is) meant for another thread entirely.

Well that's fishin' dogonit. Did you happen to see what they were using?

Not that it would really matter...I've been next to folks using the same dern bait as me, but they'll catch fish and I won't!  :-\
