Ventured to the lake yesterday
« on: February 12, 2007, 04:43:13 PM »
Well, I couldn't stand it any longer yesterday and told my wife I had to get out of the house, and said I was headed to city park to fish.  She replied "Have fun, I'm staying inside".   Loaded my tackle bag and two rods and hit the road.  Got to the lake and found that it had some ice on it!  But still had some open spots.  I really didn't expect to catch anyhting...which I didn't   ::) , but it was good to cast a line again  :) .  The fun part was watching the large geese and some ducks slip & slide on the ice when they'd make a landing, lol.  The ice crackled a few times also when the geese would get near the edge where the ice and open water met.  Spent about a 1.5 hrs there, and I was wrapped up good, but just cumbersome to cast with the coat on.  Snapped a couple of pics of the lake which I'll post later tonight (have to return to school for a meeting in awhile).

At least you got out there in the fresh air.   Look forward to seeing the pics.

good to see you got out and casted.  I handled my fishing rods over the weekend when I moved them from one side of the room to the other.  Thats the most action they have seen since November. :o

Here's the pics:

If you look at the middle pic, look between the metal posts and you see the tree (what's left of it) that the beaver got a couple of months ago.

yep, and now they have some heavy-duty mesh wire around the base of just about all of the trees along the bank.

After work yesterday I came home, shifted out of my work clothes and headed to city park.  The water was up pretty good from the snow melt and occasional rain.  Zeroed again, but I was in shirt sleeves and not bundled-up doing it   :) .  Same story....tried plastics, spinner bait, & shallow diver (Mann's 1-).  No takers :( .  Would have gone today after work, but we had parent-teacher conferences until 5:45, so I got out of there at 6pm.  After 12 hours at the school I just wanted to get home, eat dinner and relax.

Looking at the paper yesterday I noticed that the water temps at the lakes was still in the 40?s. I?m guessing that the fish are still going to be deep. Sunshine is helping, but a warm spring rain would bring the water temps up a bit quicker. We still have an ice skim around some of our water. Looks like Saturday and Sunday is bringing rain and warmer temps. I am getting ready!
