WOW what a difference a day makes.
« on: December 12, 2011, 06:59:31 PM »
Yesterday BigT and I caught 30 crappie with 26 keepers.  Today I took Bigfoot with me to the same place.  The fish were still 26' deep and the sky was cloudy instead of sunny.  We tend to think sunny is better  for crappie.  Today we were wrong.

We caught 123 crappie and 83 of them were keepers.  The difference was today they wanted the bait held about 18" off the bottom and slightly twitched.  Throw in half a dozen eyes and some whites and blacks and we were busy all day long.  They were still biting when the rain came.  45° late in the pm with lots of fish caught I don't stay out there and get wet.  So we called the dogs and put out the fire at 3:15.

Nice going there, Jig Man!   8) I suppose you feed the line down for a completely vertical presentation with them being that deep?

I need to outfit the little 2-man with a portable "fish finder". Maybe that would help me crappie fish a little better in that watershed lake i go to sometimes. It's usually real clear and i know they're down there somewhere. The only time i've done ok there with the crappie, it was stained pretty good.

That's an awesome day for sure. It's supposed to rain here tonight and tomorrow. Are you down on the main lake or in the upper end?

I have been putting in at the confluence of Son's Creek and the Big Sac River.  From there I work my way up the Sac but never go more than 3 or 4 miles.  Most of the time I am less than 1/2 mile from the truck.
