Ike
« on: March 04, 2006, 07:37:30 PM »
Hey it was great that BASS stepped up and disqualified Ike. It is about time that somebody did something about all the profanity on ESPN bass saturday. Dont get me wrong I dont think that Ike is a very bad person and I think it took a lot of courage to apologize on ESPN. I just think that if you are vulgar you should be punished no matter how pasionate you are. Still I forgive him. By the way I think that Preston Clark Has apologizing to do as well.  I have to give Ike "PROPS" for apologizing on ESPN.  I am not saying that Preston is a terrible person but it is just that he needs to keep the profanity off the television.  Now let me get one thing strait, I am not saying that everyone that has ever said a curse word is a terrible person but I am saying that the one who decides to show that on ESPN is not in the right.  Lets show some class people.

Same here.

Ike is from a part of the country where its more acceptable I guess to use profanity than here in the South but he needs to leave it at home when he's on national TV.

Im glad he apologized.

To be completely fair about it I think that ESPN owes this country an apology.
I truly believe that Ike needs to tone it down, but ESPN does not need to keep showing us this stuff either. They have aired segments of a couple of other anglers that had to be bleeped and I have to wonder just what they think this adds to the show?

Its Ike time in the media chamber, in time they will easy off.

I can not understand when someone does something foolish the media blows it out of tex.

Do they ever whip on some one that does something right.

I guess bad news is good for bussiness and good news is boring to general public.

Basser, that depends on what town you are in. I've seen traffic backed up in Vegas before for a parked car on the side of the interstate. :shoothead

I feel that Ike is am embarrassment to the sport.  He acts like a little child trying to draw attention to himself.  There are many great fisherman who don't have to swear and scream to get publicity.  Last year he sucked at the tourney and pulled his d.q. stunt.  This year he pulls this.  He has talent, yes, but so does Terrell Owens...the problem is both do more harm than good.  There is no respect for the sport.

dont get me wrong i am far from an iconelli fan but i just dont get why people are getting upset with his cussing. u cant hardly turn on the TV without hearing one. i can understand DQing him for the flag pole thats not very respectful of the U.S. and i thought they should of DQed him for the whole tourny for that. Now the dead fish thing is what got me. i think that ranger new that they had a problem with there livewells and didnt want all the attetion on them so they dropped him. but it dosent matter he will just pick up another in  a feww weeks.

He normally fishes out of a Ranger, but in the Classic they are required to all use Tritons.
Im pretty sure this is a requirement for the final day of all Elite series tourneys also (or at least was at one time)

Concur on that.  Have to use a Triton during the tourneys.  FLW requires Rangers I believe.  I think they should make them all fish out of aluminum Trackers   ;)   ;D

Bassman, I understand your thinking regarding the cussing but just because you hear it on TV all the time still does not make it right. No different than seeing all the gay agenda being pushed at us through the media. It ain't right ::knup

FLW doesnt force them to use Rangers I dont think, except during the championship, but offers bonus money if you do, so its a no-brainer not to do so.  Yamaha does the same in FLW, so you see a lot of Rangers with Yammys on them there.

When you promote fishing as an ethical wholesome family sport there can be no tolerance for profanity or inappropriate behavior.  Yes people make mistakes, but patterns of bad behavior needs to be delt with.  Ike's antics have no place except in the WWE.

i think we should all stop and think why is ike in the classic well he is one of the best fisherman around and fishing in an era when there are big names such as kvd,G,and many more ,,you cant really say he didnt earn his spot there with the best in our sport so of coarse hes gonna be upset when he finds a couple fish dead in his live well he knew that his shot at winning was gone now could he have handled it in a different manner yes he could have but i dont think we should be so quick to judge him every one here has had a bad day and thats just life now he has said he was sorry and that takes a big man to do so also i might add he is sitting right at the top of another tourney he is fishing in texas so i geuss the real lesson to be learned here is the one ranger boats is gonna have to learn the hard way you shouldnt have let one of the premiere fisherman of this era walk its not goona stop IKE thats for sure hell Ike could fish it in a pontoon and still place LOL he dont need no ranger LOL its the other way around my friends so i geuss im tryin to say WHO REALLY CARES Ike will still sit with the best olny difference is there will be one less ranger boats patch again who cares  ;D ;D ;D

BASS--Tritons in classic. They are the sponsor and supply the boats. In the qualifying tourneys, each angler uses his own boat all days of the tourney. Elite series uses Tritons on final round for the 12 who make it. I wonder what each individual fisherman's sponsor thinks of that?

FLW--Rangers in the All American. They are the sponsor and supply the boats. Same as above in qualifying tourneys.

As far as Ike goes, he went way overboard and paid the price. But I think he'll bounce back, probly with a Skeeter.  Ranger was not wrong to drop Ike.
Every sponsor, like mine, has you sign a contract stating that you "shall be polite, courteous, and maintain the highest level of professionalism and sportsmanship". He's not the first fisherman to lose a sponsor for bad behaviour, and he won't be the last.

Man when I started this post I never realized how many people felt the same as me.  I thought everyone just thought that Ike was a cool guy.  I am glad that everyone feels as strongly as I do. It is good that people still can show some class even when it isnt shown on the television.
