Japanese anglers
« on: April 08, 2006, 10:11:28 PM »
Is it just me or does the japanese culture now include bass fishing.  Flukae won on Beaver lake for his second win in the flw tour this year.  Pretty soon it wont be the all american tradition it will be the all japanese tradition.  Not that that is a bad thing just stating my point.

Apparently bass fishing is a major deal in Japan, with tackle/bait shops included.  I saw a show where they stated the bass is considered a nuisance fish over there, and they're not doing a lot of catch & release with them, and there's a push to get people to change their thinking/ways and consider it [bass] a sport fish and release them.

i think the asian bass pros are cool. i went to bass pro today, where me and the reel guy behind the counter were talikin fishing and saw a asian guy who had just bought a brand new spinning reel combo. he put it together and started reeling it upside down. me and the sales man thought it was funny and helped the guy telling him  nicely that the eyes of the rod are built lke that so you can hold the reel down. so he thanked us and left. me and the sales man thought it was pretty funny. but thats the reason u dont have to worry about bass fishing becoming an asian pastime.

Japanese are very serious about Bass fishing, look at the tackle it is top notch and very expensive, I guess if you look at it a different way these guys are living the american dream being able to fish foor a living and having the freedom to do so. I wish I could, just can't afford it.

those guys are pretty darn good. they all seem to have a really fantastic work ethic. and, from what i understand, bass fishing in japan is really tough!
i think fukuae is amazing, same with omori and kiriyama. i think it is great that our sport is becoming international.

I have read that bass fising in Japan is the 2nd biggest sport after baseball. The Samurai mentality that makes Japanese businesses and businessmen so effective is carried over into every aspect of their lives.

I think that most places in the world other than North America,..fishing is about catching and eating!  We lose sight of the fact that the rest of the world is actually pretty poor!  A little while back I was in Korea on business and I was pleased to find that they had a "fishing channel" on TV in the Hotel where I stayed.  Well I watched it for a while and it was all about catching these little panfish from shore and nothing ever got released.  Afterward, I noticed while traveling the countryside there, that I passed a whole bunch of waters and never saw even one pleasure boat out there!   And I'm not talking ski boats and cabin cruisers,..I'm saying I didn't ever see anyone in even a little tin boat !!!

Sometimes we lose sight of just how blessed we are in this country and it takes something like that to bring you back to reality!!!  Sure was nice to get back home and get out on the water!! ;)
If you're a fisherman, ya gotta fish!

yeah, but, the japan's economy is probably the strongest on earth aside from our own, so most hard working citizens there can pretty much have what ever hobby or may be proffesion they please....including bass fishing.

i do agree though, we are blessed to live in this great country.
