Flounder
« on: April 26, 2008, 06:18:44 PM »
What artifical lures do you use to catches flounder around pier pilings and bidge pilings and near-by flats maybe. I may get to go flounder fishing maybe once a year and have yet to catch one. I was going to use live bait the last time I went but couldn't find any bull minnows that was suggested by some people that lived there, from the previous year. Any help would be great!

Thanks!

Many years ago in Florida I caught a flounder by mistake.  We were surf fishing and I was retrieveing my rig to check the bait and a flounder hit it.  We were using shrimp for bait that day.  You know, that's the only fish I ever caught while surf fishing   ::) , but it could have had something to do with the beer that was involved   :o

dead shrimps or live shrimps. Oh, and what kind of rig were you using?

Bank fiii...'er shore fishing, with various artificals and rigs, I've caught about a dozen skipjack, 1 pompano, 1 sheephead, 2 trouts and 1 catfish over the past 8-10 years. Have tried for blue's and spanish but have not caught any of those either. Oops! the pompano and the sheephead came while on a short pier along with some pinfish.(saltwater bream!)

Dead shrimp, which we had caught the night before with a cast net.  We were using big surf casting rods with heavy triangle weights.  Best I can recall, the weight was tied-in above the hook about 12"-18".  Wade out as far as you can, cast, back into the shore, stick your rod in a piece of pvc pipe driven into the sand, then sit down and take it easy   8)

I have caught them on leadhead jigs and artificial shrimp. The soft plastic shrimp I used were white and the leadheads were red.
