Where have I been??
« on: August 15, 2009, 01:08:12 PM »
It's been a really lousy year for bass fishing here,..so I've been concentrating more & more on the stripers in Long island Sound this summer,...here's a couple of the best ones from the last few weeks!  32"/13# and 37"/20# respectively!! :)

Those really are nice fish.  Do they hang out in shallow water in your neck of the woods this time of the year?

Bear in mind I'm still a newbie learning this stuff,..but this time of year (at least where I fish,..) I believe that they are mostly solitary just cruising from one rockpile or ledge to the next,.. The last pic was from this morning and i was actually giving up after a couple of hours of nothing and trolling my way back to the beach where I launch.  It's a shallow beach and I caught it in about 6-8 FOW  about 75-100 yds from shore!
Most of the other fish I've caught were on a rock-ridge that just breaks the surface at low tide and drops off into 10-15 FOW about 200 yds offshore!
As I understand it,..they begin to school up more in the fall where the action can get pretty hot & heavy when you get "on them"!! ;D

Wow, that is awesome! I bet they're good eats. Wanna trade for some salmon?  ;D
