Bear in mind I'm still a newbie learning this stuff,..but this time of year (at least where I fish,..) I believe that they are mostly solitary just cruising from one rockpile or ledge to the next,.. The last pic was from this morning and i was actually giving up after a couple of hours of nothing and trolling my way back to the beach where I launch. It's a shallow beach and I caught it in about 6-8 FOW about 75-100 yds from shore!
Most of the other fish I've caught were on a rock-ridge that just breaks the surface at low tide and drops off into 10-15 FOW about 200 yds offshore!
As I understand it,..they begin to school up more in the fall where the action can get pretty hot & heavy when you get "on them"!!
