Big jigs

Hey G how big are you making your jigs?
I'm looking for weights from 3/4 to 1 1/2 oz. Stuff I'm trying to fish in is more like casting in your yard than in the water. I need some heavies!

I am buying my 1 ounce jigs from Gman,..but if you want 1.5 ouncers,..you can get them from tournament force tackle  http://www.tournamentforce.com/.  They are good guys there and will treat you right! ;)

Thanks J4F, I wrote that address down.
I ordered some ? and 1 oz. jigs from G-Man. I plan on using them on the outside, deeper edges, of the weed beds. I?m just not sure that 1 oz. is going to be heavy enough for some of the places I?m trying to go.
Last time out I tried a kamikaze cast with a ? oz. bullet weight and it wouldn?t punch through!  :huh

Actually Duster you flip it straight up, thumb the spool, and jerk it down as hard as you can. I learned that technique from a video about fishing weeds. He was doing it with an ounce and a half jig!
It?s hard to believe that the fish would still be there after something that large hitting the water that hard but believe me it works. Braided line is a must for this type of fishing!

Pondhopper,..1-ounce jigs are where I tend to draw the line.  The reason I stay away from the heavier jigs is that even though they might go down okay,..they tend to grab too much stuff when you're trying to lift them back up!
If a 1-ounce jig won't go through the mat well enough,..I will just turn to a 1.5 ounce bullet weight in front of a large tube, or stickworm or (my new favorite for this..) Paca-craws.   These all go in AND out of the mats really well! 8)

I understand what you mean. Carrying all that lead around has already made my right arm 3? longer than my left!
And I also have to say yes to the Paca-craws. I have had some good results with them.
