Better drag
« on: January 17, 2011, 11:47:48 AM »
I've got a couple older reels.  One is a Shimano Chronarch 100sf and a TDX Diawa.  Does anyone make a better drag system for them?

G I did an upgrade for all of my Curados a few years back and put in smoothies.  They are dry and never need to be lubed.  I bought them from Heartland Tackle.  He has since retired and moved to TX.  Right now if I were looking at doing something I'd either contact Ian Shields on this site or contact John (the reel mechanic) and see what they recommend.  I have used both of those guys and they do a bang up job and are very knowledgeable.

Yessiree, send E_bassfisher a message about what you need to know. He's "reel" good on both of those brands, G!

Jigman, are the smoothies a different product than the Carbontex fiber washers?

If so , is one better than the other?

Bass don't eat what they don't see.

Yes they are different as I remember and only about 1/2 the price.  I was doing 7 reels at the time.

you can get carbon-tex drag kits for both for around $9 each. carbon-tex is smoother and much stronger than most stock drags. also, they are somewhat easy to install.
