I use line butter and bearing lube by Ardent  but is there something better, Let me know what you use for your reel maintainence and which reel you use it on

that oil is suppose to be real good.  I've never used it.  I've used hotsauce but looking for something better.

I've also heard Rocket oil is real good too.

The best thing out there is Ebassfisher.  He is on this site and can do wonders for reels.  I have sent him some and am perfectly happy with the results.

any time you switch lubricants you need to clean the reel completely. different greases use different fillers that don't often get along. as for oils, they often contain different additives that sometimes do not mix well for the long term. also, any time you relube a reel, it should be cleaned thoroughly because of the debris that gets in the reel over time.

as far as hotsauce goes, i really like the grease. it seems to be, by far, the most stable when it comes to temperature effect on consistency. many greases will thicken, or even coagulate badly when exposed to cold. for oil, i prefer daiwa reel oil; it is light (low visc.) and lsts well.

For you fellas with high end reels : Please be careffull sometimes if you use a lubricant not by that company it can mess with your warranties. I saw this posted by Kevin from Pro EReels he is a wonderful reel mechanic and free with good advice. He was a dressing a fellow who wanted to use Hotsauce on a Diawa reel, the tell tale red dye, would have been enough for Diawa not to honr the warranty for some reason

there are many really rediculous excuses used by the reel companies; i have heard shimano guys go as far as to say that it will 'eat' gears....which is beyond laughable. i have worked on hundreds and hundreds of reels, and never have i seen something so rediculous. IMHO, the problem they have with hotsauce is that it adheres better than most reel grease and that=more time spent cleaning.

but, IF you plan on having your reel covered by the warranty, don't use it. the ONLY reel i would worry about a warranty on is a shimano DC reel because of the parts costs. most any other reel(even the $500 steez) has parts that are generally very affordable. and a good reel guy can fix most any issue you will see for a reasonable fee; on the other hand, the frame for a 100dc calcutta cost $300, and the brakinductor over $400!!!!!!! and, if you tear up the dc mechanism....yer screwed if you don;t have the warranty.

BTW, while i do think hotsauce is a superior lubricant, the daiwa and shimano factory lubricants are really good too. so i wasn't trying to state otherwise.

I understand that . I have no knowledge in this area at all, but i know that there is all kinds of BS from tackle companies. I mentioned Kevin, because he is a pro reel mechanic and will give free, qualified advice.I have used 2.99 a package of ABU oil and Grease for years, no porblems . nada once, I tend to think that gimmiky names like Butter and Hot Sauce are just that yet another gimmick.

there's no gimmick with this stuff, it is the real deal. most any good reel tuner uses hotsauce grease and that is for good reason. i have tried more greases than i care to even try to remember....and NONE of them adhere, last, or have the same thermal resistance as the hotsauce. also, at ~$10 for a tiny tube, believe me, i would love to find something that works better...or even as well.

I know of 2, David Green The Reel Mechanic and one other locally that will not touch it for the residue it leaves behind. I dont know anything about this myslef, but I do know the statement that any good mechanic uses them, Dave did some reels for me, and he is first rate and will not go near hot sauce, thats too broad a statement for me to accept.
at 2.99 a tube the ABU has worked for me for a few decades now, and many others. I have no clue which if any are better, I am not qualifed to make more of this than i have.
If you are a reel mechanic I will respecdt your input as much as those who do not use it,like I said I am not expert on this matter

I think there is alot of preference in this.  Kinda like the best engine oil.  Volvoline, Mobile, Etc.

Speaking of that I wonder how good of an oil Mobil 1 synthetic would make in the 0-30w or something like that.

I have also used ballistol(sp).  Its a real good oil.

Na its not illegal unless its solicitation of a business pushing product.  Your good to go.

I've used all local reel and rod mechanics and Ian (E_Bassfisher) will be getting all my business from now on. He's the best I've ever run across in 40 years and what he says to do or not to do to my reels I take his advice and have been happy with everything he's done to mine and Chris's Reel and Rod's. :2thumbs Ian.
