really depends on your preference. i use different oils for different mechanisms depending on what i (or the reel owner) hope to achieve performance wise. for instance: i happen to love a really free spool with a somewhat 'gummy' crank. so, i use low viscosity oil for spool related bearings and thicker oils and grease for crank related parts. i think the most important thing is to not over lube the reel.

I just use whatever I have, I think right now I have a few bottles of diawa oil from the last few reels I got.

I've been using the ABU GARCIA earl that I got with the new reels I bought several months ago.

I use shimano oil-the one that comes in the box with the reels along with Shimano Star Drag Grease which I'm out of and having trouble finding. A lot of places seem to be out of stock. One of my baitcasters is a Quantum. For that one I use Quantum Hot Sauce oil and grease.

I have a small dispenser of reel oil I bought at Walmart awhile back that I use sparingly on the crank mechanism and the gears.  It has Zebco on the tube.    :scratch

I took an old 5600 of Casey's to Ian and I'll tell you that I can't remember an old ABU throwing that smooth. I took it to the river before I took it back to him and tried it out on a bandit 100 and it would sling it. It's worth taking it to Ian and getting him to clean them!
