Wow I've got to buy some more braid
« on: March 19, 2009, 01:07:45 PM »
I just got 2 Curado's (which I had supertuned last year) back from E_bassfisher.  He cleaned them and put new ceramic bearings in them.  I took the 1996 one and put it back on the line that had been on it and on the 6 1/2' H rod that it has lived on for the last 13 years.

I taped it like usual at the junctions of the two lines and put a 1/4 oz casting plug on it.  (I usually use a 1/2 oz.).  I adjusted the spool tension, the casting popouts and drag like usual.  I normally can cast it to the neighbor's apple tree.  On the first cast which was a tenative one, I cast to the tree.  So a did my usual cast on the next one.  Not only did it go farther it ripped off all of my braid threw the tape into the wind, took a lot of the mono backing off and gave me a sizeable backlash.

That MAN is a prince when it comes to doing reels.  When my wife gives me some more money, I'll be sending him some more. ;D ;D ;D

Hahaha,...wisht I coulda seen that one!!
That's way cool,...I have many fine reels now,..but I can still probably cast better than any of them with my old curados that I've upgraded with ceramics.

To anyone that cleans their own reels,...I noticed another big improvement in casting performance when I began to clean and polish the metal races ( the metal hoop that's in the side plate) that the brakes slide on.  You want to keep a mirror-finish on those, or it really will take some distance off your casts! 8)

I just rigged up the second reel.  It is a 2000 Curado on the same rod and will out cast the 1996 by more than 20'.   Tomorrow they are going to get a workout.  Those reels and rods have made their way to the bottom of the rod locker.  Now they are on top and those super frees and Gloomis's are on the bottom. ;D ;D
