A 1/2oz spinnerbait w/options
« on: March 27, 2011, 01:45:32 PM »
I decided to make a single spin for the early season, so I made this. The trailer is rabbit fur which can be cut off if it's not the effective. The blade on the spinnerbait is a #5 willow with the option of switching them out as follows: Size 4.5 willows, 6, 5, 4 colorados. The snap on the bearing will give me a quick an easy change. I'm not crazy about the lead head, but it was given to me by a friend, so I figured I'd try it out. Whatcha think?

I like it.  Looks really good.  Should be a great bait for this time of year.  I also like the option of changing blades.

Thanks for the kind posts guys, I certainly appreciate that. I was hoping to have a couple more to post yesterday along with this one, but I ended up with unexpected company. I probably should have waited.  :P

pondhopper, I'm just being skeptical. I don't mind working spinnerbaits right thru weeds and the head on this one is a little wider (you cant't really see it from the pic) than most spinnerbaits that I have built and used in the past. I'm hoping to get out there soon to try it out, maybe it will prove me wrong.  :D

I have and I like them. The only complaint I have with them is that they come in clear coated, otherwise they tarnish fast. Not a bad thing, but when that clear coat gets scratched up, they look hiddeous. JMHO.  ;)

EDIT: Just came back from fishing this spinnerbait at the pond.

I did.
Air temps was 45* & water was COLD. We just iced out about 1 1/2 weeks ago and the water was very clear. I got to watch both strikes. 1 was caught on the #5 willow and 1 was caught on the #6 colorado. Wind was howling so I left after about 2 hours. I know this spinnerbait is a little off-the-wall, but that trailer really had nice action in the water. Worked yesterday anyway. I'll post some more generic one's in the future...LOL

We have a Nor'Easter coming in for tonight, so I decided to try my luck on this spinnerbait. I guess this one liked the rabbit trailer. Released her just as the snow came in.  8)

EDIT: She was 23.25" long x 21" girth
