brain power. Single strand skirt material
« on: July 18, 2007, 09:03:39 PM »
I bought some square rubber skirt material for making jigs. The problem is its one continuous strand. Whats the best way to make skirts out of this?

Here is the idea I had. Take a piece of plywood. Say 8"8". Put 4 nails in it about 4" apart in a square. Wrap the rubber around it about 44 times. This will hold the material while I tie 1 jig on each side. Then cut them free.

Any other ideas?

One long strand?  Can you post a picture of it?

Dont have a pic of the material but its 1/16*1/16"*333ft long. ::)  Thats where I"m running into the issue.  I've tried to use single silicone strands from broken skirts before.  It doesnt work well or easily.  so cutting it into pieces is out.

how about wrapping it back and forth on itself (zig-zag like an S), about 6 inches long, until you've zigged and zagged 40 times. Then use one of the skirt tools that hold the binder open hands free and stuff it in.

or do your idea and zip tie the material before cutting it at the nails. Then it will be held together long enough to eith put it into a rubber collar or wire tie it to the jig.

Dont you have a collar tool that stretches out the collars?  With one of those I wouldn't think it would be hard when they are cut.

it only streaches out about the size of the flat side of a nickle.  When you get a bunch of strands together its real tought to get them in there without a headache and alot of time.  Fishrmans twist tie might be a good option.

Tie both ends closest to the nails after the 44 wrap and they would almost be like a silicone skirt without the ends cut. Then you could use the band tool.
