Finally finally finally
« on: January 20, 2010, 09:19:18 AM »
I have been working for 2 years to build my 3" DO NOTHIN bait.  I have gone through a bunch of proto types and finally found one that I like.

The bait in the top of each column are commercially done.  The rest are mine.

This little bait will catch anything that swims.  I use it exclusively in the cold winte water.  We get specs, eyes, lmb, smb, spots, drum and some cats on these baits.

I can buy the baits but they are in basic colors.  I can special order them but the last order I did with them took 2 200 mile trips and 3 months of waiting for the baits to arrive and when the got here they were wrong.  So I'll just make my own from now on.

The last time I was in their store they had 5 basic colors from which to choose.  Since I got my stuff going I now have 27 different color patterns.  I rig 4 setups when I do this bait and I go nuts trying to choose which ones to use.  This needs to be a partner thing so at least 8 can be rigged and two fished at a time ( the guy in the back if he is good can fish to rods simultaneously) to see which works best for that 30 minutes.  Changing colors seems to be the name of the game for those deep fish just like fishing for those fall sandies.

Typically you fish it right on the bottom.  You move the boat as slow as possible letting it set on the bottom and being dragged a little at a time (we are taling incredibly slow here).

Once in a while you lift it up about 6" give an itty bitty twitch and let it fall.  Sometimes if you can see fish you just hold it 24" off the bottom and let them come to it.  Other times you lift it 3' off the bottom give a little twitch and let it fall back.  You have to keep trying to find out what method and colors the fish will take.

I use fairly stiff rods with good feel and Power Pro 8/1 Hi Vis Yellow braid cammoed at the bottom with markers.

Congrats!  Your product looks just like the factory one. How many do you make at one time? Do you think they would work like tube jigs for suspended specs. I'm not sure about the length. The tubes I fish with for suspended crappies are rather small like 1".  At any rate those look great!

I have 20 moldS.  I also have a smaller bait that I made a few years ago.  (DON'T KNOW NUTHIN BOUT SUSPENDED SPECS SEPT FnF). ;)

Yes from the local hdw store.  I buy it in 3' lengths and cut it to suit.

I have but I don't like it.  I'm planning to buy a tube injection mold from Bear's baits.  I just haven't decided exactly what I want yet.

Yea I think I do. Things just keep getting curiouser and curiouser. Do you rig em with opening up or down ? I'm thinking this opening I'm talking bout cause I have no better way to describe it,........ allows the bait to do some gliding. Is that right?

Did you still need some of those catheter syringes?

Steve,

I won't know until mid week next week.  A guy at a farm and home said he thought he could get me some if I would buy at least 20.  He called and left a message and said they should be here on Tuesday so I'll have to let you know.

Now, go back and look at the colors, pick some and pm me your mailing addy because if I have it I can't find it.

You can rig the either way.  Bigfoot uses them for pitching on the long pole and runs them this way with the tail split.
