Hand dipping tubes
« on: March 20, 2007, 01:12:51 PM »
Does anyone on here do this.

If so I've got a few questions

Type of plastic used?  Regular or soft

Best container to use and temp of plastic. Dip vertically or horizontally

Typically how many dips does it take?

Thanks

You need to get something like a test tube that Can handle sitting on the burner, you want something tall but small in diameter so you don't waste a bunch of plastic, I tried using Giant nails in a regular pouring pan and they were uuuuuugly wasted a lot of plastic too, then you need a cutting tool as well, I just used a razor blade but by the time I finished everything I threw them in the trash ::)

Thats the main problem.  I cant find anything to try it with that doesnt waste a ton of plastic.  I was thinking of some type of pyrex beaker or something a mad scientist would use.  I found a real tall skinny glass almost like a shot glass but I doubt it would hold up.  I dont need a bunch of glass exploding everywhere.
