increasing spinnerbait blade size
« on: May 22, 2006, 11:17:49 AM »
Whats your favorite size blades when you make a 3/8,1/2 oz spinnerbait? Also your favorite wire dia.

Here is what I have been using
3/8
.032 for the wire
willow  4,  shaft 3
CO.  5,    " 2

1/2
wire .035
willow 4.5, shaft 3.5
Co 5, shaft 3

The main reason I ask is because I am wanting more blade size on the shaft and main blade.  Has anyone strapped a 4 or 4.5 willow to the shaft with a 4.5-5 on the back to a 3/8.  I'm wondering if it will tumble in the water.
Same way with the 1/2 if anyone has bumped that up to a 4-4.5 shaft and a 5 rear blade.

Especially for night fishing a slow rolled spinnerbait or making a wake, I like a #7/#5 Colorado combo.

I think a #4 would work, but a 4.5 would probably be too big.   But how much is it gonna cost you to try it? ;D
