Jig Makers ???
« on: January 18, 2009, 08:44:00 AM »
Ordered skirt materials to put my own color combos together, I have this tool below to make and band the skirts, anything easier and quicker out there that doesn't cost a fortune?

Actually, I watched that video that AB posted on bps and used that method with that tool, it's quite simple, I just load up the bands on that stick, then just lay out my combos, pick them up hook them on, it was pretty easy that way.

I think I got like 10 or so bands to fit on the tool itself, then I just laid out the piles of skirt material, 2 pads or 2 1/2, if you go three it can be tricky getting it in the chute. But 2.5 goes in rather easy,  just grab your pads hook them on, then just pull it up and slide the band down, just like a senko o-ring tool.

Pull it out and trim the tabs, adjust band accordingly.

I was taking a long time at first because I was doing everything 1 by 1. putting a collar on, Pulling out a pad, , hooking one pad, then grabbing another etc. If you lay it all out and have the collars loaded you can bang em out pretty fast.

Joe how long do the collars last.  I have them rotting on buzzbaits and I have to tie them.

I  have no clue really, I have buzzbaits that are probably 5+ years old that are still fine, have some old jigs, that I don't use as well, I haven't really ran into a rotting problem as of yet, Knock on wood!

Rotting bands have been a real problem for me over the years. I have had the skirts fall off of some expensive baits as well as the cheaper ones so price doesn’t seem to make a difference. When I order my jigs from G I get them all wire tied. I know these skirts aren’t coming off!

As far as a "home remedy", I use sewing thread and a touch of glue to keep my skirts on. Haven't lost one yet. However, i do like the wired skirts.
