Pike/Bass Livebait Rig
« on: July 19, 2007, 10:09:35 PM »
These are made with 30# test surflon nylon coated SS leader wire. The lead crimping tool I got with the kit didn't seem to hold to well so I've been using a pair of needle nose plyers. I crimp the wire just tight enough so that I can see both wires through the leader sleeve. I'm afraid if I crimp it to tight that it will weaken the lead connector. They seem to hold pretty well and I haven't had any complaints yet. Picture this rig with a 4 or 5 inch sucker. The biggest smallie I caught was a 4# or 5#, 21 inch pregnant female 3 days before opening season on a 4" sucker. I had 4 people mad at me because I let it go. That was on a bucktail jig tipped with a 4" sucker. Any feedback is appreciated. Swizzle

I made up a half dozen of these only shorter and with a smaller black blade and black beads. It's for live rigging leeches and small suckers. Should I add a barrel swivel on the front or just leave it alone? Its a size 4 colorado blade and size 2 hook. Swizzle

That thing looks sweet! Specially for live leeches.Have you ever used it?If you have do you just cast out then retrieve or do you let it sit on the bottom for a minute or two?I don't use leeches...I'm partial scared of them, but i have rigged them once or twice...so i'm not that scared.Just never caught anything on leeches before.
Magic lures don't exist.

No, I never tried it. I still haven't gotten my fishing license yet this year. It can be used as a simple cast and retrieve or just let it set on bottom and do a slow pump and retrieve for 5 or 6 feet at a time or troll with it. I sold 12 of the lures you see at the top to my parents baitshop and they already sold out of the hammered brass and only had 2 hammered nickle left. They have 5 left total. The one guy that's buying them says that the trout love them. I'm actually doing pretty good on selling most of the stuff I've tied so far. I just need some cash to stock up on all the beads and blades and floats and whatnot. If you want a leech rig then PM me or e-mail me and I'll give you a price. I was thinking of tying these with mono and adding some floats if I can find black floats. Swizzle
