Reusing scraps
« on: February 03, 2011, 12:33:33 PM »
After the bitty bait contest I had various small quanities of colors left over.  So I collected all the light ones and tossed in some old left over orange.  It came out salmon.  I put all the dark colors in and the green dominated all else.  So I shot a few tubes.

Not liking the colors I added all them together and got a really nasty pinkish, purplish, greenish color.  I added 15 drops of black colorant to that mess and came up with a nice chocolate brown (which I will never be able to duplicate).

Jigman how did you get the top color? If you don't mind sharing the recipe?

grim, it was all the light colors that I had left over along with some orange.  I mixed it all up and melted it down.  There is no way on God's green earth that I could ever repeat it.  The closest thing would probably be get a recipe for salmon what ever that would be.

I looked at TU and found this:  I found that 5 drops LC red with 3 drops of LC Chartreuse in 4 oz plastic gives a light pink.

lol

I'm gonna give TU's color a try. That orange is almost the exact color of our craws here in the early spring(bright orange). Late spring they start looking like the two below the bright orange one.I'm gonna add some small black flakes to it though.

Man those are some good colors here almost nobody makes.

I have 4 of the 3 1/2 tube molds.  You also need the injector.

Yes it does.  I got birthday money last year and ordered 2 of the tube molds and the twin injectors.  My birthday money just got me started.

BTW:  If you order the Calhoun's plastic be sure to get some heat stabilizer to go along with it because the colors will change with reheats if you don't use it.

I will remember that tip.

Since me and the wife don't do Christmas exchanges,we usually wait till tax time to spend on ourselves. Only catch is we must buy each other something very special for Valentine's day.

I think I'm going to start out with the twin tail grub & Craw mold.Plus an injector.I figure I'll get the medium if i decide to get more molds.

I'll get Tube, single grub, and stickbait mold as time goes on.

grim I have a stick mold that I bought from Gman and the tube molds.  Maybe we can work something out.  Let me know.  If you are not making a bunch that is a lot of capital outlay.
