What are these things?
« on: August 03, 2007, 08:37:02 PM »
And how do you rig them up? I was at my parents baitshop today and my mom asked if I could do anything with these. She has a box with a few hundred of these in them. I'm thinking an size 2 hook, a worm weight, a spinnerblade and a bead on 30# wire leader material. Swizzle

Swiz, I do beleive you have yoursef some gin-u-wine skrew worms. Texas rig them and nothing more.

Are they all the same color? What is the length?

solly, must be the time of day! .....

Roland Martin invented those and was pushing those alongside the helicopter liure. Originally, they aired on the same infomercial filmed on Lake Baccarac (I think it was) in Mexico.

Texas rigged they will screw down. Come to think of it...you may have to use a swivel, or it'll twist your line but good.

These are all the same color and they are about 5 inches long if just left dangling. If I take the curves out of it and lay it flat its about 6 and a half inches and the body is 1 and 7/8ths inches. Should I order special hooks or do you think I can get away with baitholders? Also when I hook it up should I do exactly the same as I would for a rubber worm? Push the hook through the bait and then back into the bait?!? I can see setting the hook through a worm but I think it would be quite difficult to set a hook through both layers of rubber on this one as the body is hollow. I've tried finding these things online and I can find them anywhere's? Do you guys have any links for these? Swizzle

I've seen stuff like that too and wondered what they were. I've only
ever fished with real worms or salmon eggs or power bait. So how do
ya put those on a hook? and is there a special hook you get for those?

I notice you said the body was hollow.Rig it like a tube(jig head)...i bet you could put a rattle inside that too.

I got an idea. E-mail the man himself and ask, send him the pics too.(to Roland Martin that is!) He may tell ya all you need to know. Then again he may tell'ya that aint it! bwaaa!

As far as finding them on the web, There was a person out in california that made them ,"The screw worm", several years after the invent. However, I haven't seen anything myself in about as many years, cause I've looked. I kinda wanted some white ones ;D.

After thinking about it more in depth, I don't remember exactly how to rig it eventhough I said T-rig it. , if you T-rigged it, it could not freely corkscrew down, which is what it's suppose to do,... straight down.

(how did the helicopter  lure rig up? anybody?)

Wouldn't it hit the line if the line went into the nose of the bait? I'm think'n like you now, that there had to be some sort of special hook and weight. I must of never caught that part ???

I'll check into a contact addy sometime this weekend. Just not right this minute. I just came in from the river.(I'm bushed) I did manage to catch a couple but not enough to really put anything together for our up and coming Tourny next W/E. :(
