A buzzbait question
« on: March 08, 2011, 06:26:40 PM »
Has anyone here ever used a Shoestring's Mo' Better Buzzbait? If so, can you post some sort of review on it.

Thanks!

I don't know a last name on that ,cut.

I do not own one yet, but i'd like to try one out (read: wear them out with it  ;D). Yes, Shoestring's Mo Better Buzzbait has two line ties on them. It also has some sort of lower keel aperatus that's suppose to make it ride in the water two different ways depending on which line tie you use. Plus, it appears to be more of an in-line buzzbait in the photos i've seen. Since i'm in the trial and error stages of finding another buzzbait or three, i might as well try a MoBetter one  ;D.

Get, i prefer an unbalanced single blade buzzbait, however, there's nothing wrong, at all, with most of the other configurations/styles out there. They're all tools, as long as they see them(or feel them), make the correct noise, and imparts the right action for that day, and will get bit!  ;D

Note: My favorite buzzbait is no longer made. For the past several years now i have been suffering to find a buzzbait that equaled the catch rate of my old favorite brand/model. I have tried many since then. Some of them have been pretty dog-gone good while some of the them (to me) were down right pitiful  ::2 .

Hey Crab, thanks for posting the pics ? I have seen those before but I have never used one before.  Can anyone describe using them ? What effect do they have with the different line ties ? Actually I think I have something very similar to that in my boat somewhere, but it's a fairly small  version. I usually don't  stick with a small, subtle buzzbait very long. I prefer those that cause a bunch of commotion.
My absolute best buzzbait I stupidly threw over the side of the boat one day after I tied it on and then trimmed the wrong line. I had you know what scattered all over the boat and didn't  want to get it tangled up so I figured to just tie it on and then flip it over the side and that would keep it from fouling. I never have been able to find another. The head was in-line with the blade. It was not lead. It was some type of sheet metal or tin. It was shaped sort of like a stingray with the wings curled up slightly on the tips. I think the head was in front  of the blade but it's been so long I can't remember for certain. It was an incredible bait. The design allowed it plane at a snail's pace and it also stirred up a nice commotion onn the surface.  Can someone get me a tissue please ? :'( :'(

Hey Getfished, i bet the buzzbait you threw overboard was an old "Hydrilla-Gorilla" buzzbait. I hear they were some fish catch'n baits!

Anybody know if the "Hawiian Hula" was a buzzbait or a spinnerbait? You can't find either one on the internet ....maybe some of the antique tackle sites have them ....i'll look there.

I finally got to fish Friday. Thursday morn as I was getting the boat ready I found one of those buzzbaits like crab posted. Mine is white and 1/4 oz. might be about right. It's definitely a diminutive little bait.

Buzz, I've never heard of that Hydrilla Gorilla. There is a Kansas guy on another board that uses that as a username. Do they still make that bait ?

Get, i dont think so, but i read somewhere that someone in California back in 2003 or 4 had the last go at them or something like that. Shoot, since that guy is using it as his screen name, ask him. He/she might know more about it. Both the Wiggler and the Gorilla slightly predated my second round at bass fishing. When i started back Lunker Lure was the big name in this neck of the woods.(the 80's).

update: Get, i found a few Jigs on google that went by that Hydrilla gorilla name.

Getfished, there are two that i have found that make a good bit of noise. The BoogerMan buzzbait, which clacks the head of the bait. Another, not quite as loud but it catches fish is the Booyah Buzz Blade buzzbait, and it has a clacker on the front of the shaft.

I guess i need to take the grand tour to Bass Pro Shop, Marks and Simmons.  ;D

The only buzzbait I got my eye is the Fishbelly Helix Ninja Buzzbait right now. However the price is making me hold out on it.

Hey Get, maybe the one you dropped overboard was an old hildebrandt headbanger. I think(not pozi) you can still find those...anyway ...just a thought.

Hey Paul. I have a few of those clacker buzz baits and I have to say that they work really well and I have caught several 3-5 pounders on them.
