A little tip for what it is worth...
« on: April 02, 2009, 01:08:01 PM »
I couldn't find a good place on the forum for this so I put it in Bass Fishing.

I saw a tip posted on another forum from a guy who has my profound respect when it comes to depth finders and what one is seeing on the screen.  So I assume that he knows about this also.

He stated that you would have a lot less knot failure with braid and leaders if you burn instead of cutting the ends of the two lines.  I have been using the Alberto's knot for several months and have to date had no joint knot failures.  BUT since I already own a Power Zap, I have started burning my tags instead of cutting them.

For what it is worth. ;)

good tip.  I bet when it burns it forms a little ball and wont slip through.

I think north american fisherman did a show on that as well.It forms a "knot" on the end of where it was burned causing less slips on the knot.As Gman mentioned.

I haven't tried it myself...i rarely use braid.
Magic lures don't exist.

I don't use braid, but do use the Yo-Zuri co-polymer line.  The little "ball" on the end of the tag does assist in preventing knot slippage.  Whenever I re-tie I usually cut the line with small scissors, leaving about a 1/4" tag end, then use the end of my cigarette to "ball" the tag end.   One time I screwed-up and also burned the main line coming off the hook, lol.   ::)

I can relate to that,..there's been a number of times when i was rushing to get a knot tied, where I cut the mainline instead of the tag!! :hammer :hammer

I did that 3 times in a row, in 20 degree weather. I was pissed.  I was rushing it because my hands were numb with gloves on and I had to take them off to tie the knots. ;D  :o
