ahh quality bagley baits......grrrrrr
« on: August 25, 2008, 09:12:06 PM »
just thought i'd post this as a warning to other crank bait fans here. this is a beautiful(can you use that word in fishing?) bluegill patterned crank i 'had'
here is the bait:

here is an up close of the line tie:

notice the wire that appears to go into the wood part....a wire that i assumed went through the bait and possibly connects to the hook.....right? WRONG:

broke when i 'cleaned' weeds from the bait by smacking it against the water!!! i'm just glad it didnt have a big fish on it when it broke!

anyway, thats my rant....i wish i could get my $7 back!!!!

Some of the crankbait makers on here might can tell you a way to make that back usable again.  Big M maybe?

Woh, that is seriously messed up. As a crankbaiter kinda guy, I would have been upset if I lost a fish that way.

Up to this point, only normans are on my bad list. I bought two, threw away the receipt on the way to the lake and both cbs were awful out of the box. I was very disappointed. No amount of tweaking the line tie helped either. >:D

Glad you found out now vs. a real life situation with a lunker.

That is a surprise :o That makes me remember back when Poes cranks were all the rage after David Fritts won the Classic. I bought four or so of them. They were all made of cedar if you recall. I got home from the store anxious to try them out. Well, guess what, they all had developed cracks in the bodies either after the first use or I noticed it upon taking them out of the package. I sent Browning a note about it and I did get my money back.

i had this happen before with some cheaper bagley's. infact i lost a real nice fish because of this; i still remember it: i got this huge bite!!! got the fish near the boat and the line goes slack.....and a reeled in.......a crank bait lip!!!!!! ouch
i really didnt expect this with the bluegill crank; i guess i was fooled by the wire at the line tie.

if anyone has any ideas on how to get that bait working again it would be great to hear.

Maybe you could use a small diameter drillbit and drill a hole straight into the body towards the tail, then drill one in the back of the lip (lined up with the hole you drilled in the body) and then glue a thin steel rod in that spot.  :)

They are just super glued in from the factory arent they?

Send Big M a message and ask how he attaches his lips.
