Buzzbaits (wouldn't ya know it :)
« on: May 29, 2009, 10:55:16 PM »
As some of you may know, I have felt "out of business" for some time now since Hawg Caller "Merged" with Lunker Lure. The very product that I absolutely had confidence in, as far as a their buzzbaits go, is no longer produced(Lunker Lure Pro-Model Buzzbaits ... all color selections that were available). Since that merger, I have gone on to try several buzzbaits that are on the market today(all purchased locally) including a few of the merged companies product .....any Lunker Lures that are produced today.

My latest purchase(today) was a few War Eagle Buzzbaits. Anyone here ever tried these baits. How did you like them?

I can't wait to try them out!... Hey E, can I come by sat. evening and use your test tank? ;)

Hey Buzz, I have had very limited success with buzzbaits. How about a run down on your favorite colors, blade styles, weights, conditions, etc.

If they are anything like the War Eagle spinnerbaits they should be top notch.  My favorite spinnerbaits.

List some of the others you have tried and not quite liked Buzzbait,  I have been looking too for some better ones.

Big fan of War Eagle Spinnerbaits. I haven't tried their buzzbaits though. I like the Strike King Pro Model series buzzbaits.

Let me give you a little warning on the War Eagle spinnerbaits, they are good spinnerbaits, but after 4 or 5 good fish they will break.  I experenced this at Lake mitchell last year, I had probably a 6 Lb spot on, he jumped 2 times, got em to the boat and he made one last run , then gone.  I thought my line broke until I went to retye and my knot was still there loop and everything.  Chris said he had this same trouble and had talked to other people who had too.  I e-mailed War Eagle about the problem and they did respond and did say they had a breaking problem.  They said what makes them good is the thin wire they use, and that they could make them stronger but that would take away from effectiveness.  They said on most bass their testing showed they were good for about 15 to 20  average bass, but with good spotted bass and good smallmouth, :flag yes I was correct they would last only last 5 to 10 fish.  So I don't even use them anymore because you never know when the break is going to come, there are other spinnerbaits just as good out there that doesn' t break after just a few fish.  Just be careful it could lose you a tournament.  Hope this help some of you out.  Good fishing.

I'm all about the cavitron buzzbait. Topwater bite hasn't turned on yet here. It'll be here soon though!

I've heard alot of good things about those.

Right now I throw some made by buzzinbass and some by accent lures.  I think I own 3-4 buzzbaits.

I have used the Boogerman buzzbait for years and love it. I have recently purchased the cavitron and have only used it a couple of times with limited success so I haven't decided if I like those yet. Looks great in the water and the design is awesome but......

Ive used both the BoogerMan and the Cavitron. I've caught fish on both of them but moreso on the Booger Man. The Booger Man would be better to me if they didn't put the bead on there(any buzzbait for that matter!). It seems to snag muck fairly easy. The Cavitron leaves a nice bubble trail(for that style of buzzbait) but it seems a little light in the britches in the noise and workability department compared to most buzzbait that are built on a little bigger wire. Yes, I am comparing them to the Lunker Lure ;D. The Booger Man is definately a fish catcher, you just have to play with it alot when your in the muck.

There's one out there that is a love/loath relationship and thats the BooYah Buzzbait with the klacker. It's a fish catching son of a gun but it picks up any little thing in the klacker blade and just ruins a retrieve(equates to a ton of wasted time!)!

I recently "tank tested" the war eagles after tweaking the angles of the shafts like I wanted it over at E_'s and one of them caught a fish fairly quickly. They came through the shallow cover that's around 2 sides of the lake really well, much like the Lunker Lure. Alot of Buzzbaits hang up just thinking about it. I want mine to not hang up so much coming through, over and in cover. The Lunker Lure would hang up some but not near the amount as alot of others out there. Some of them will work ya to death!, lol.

bits and pieces is all I can musturd ;D
