C Rigs
« on: June 20, 2008, 11:03:55 AM »
What all are you guys using these days?  Brass, lead, tungsten, ETC

I'm on my way of eliminating lead bullet weights.  Once I'm out of them I'm going to brass only for c rigs.  I like the benifits of them better using approx 8mm glass bead.

Swivel,  do you use a black swivel, nickle, or brass.  I use brass or black

Typical leader length?

I use
Muddy water  12-18"
clear 18-24

I like using about 50 lb braid as my main line, with 12-18" 12 lb fluro leader.   I have found you can feel the subtle bites a lot better.  With a c-rig if they dont hold on to your bait you usually never know they were there.

I use brass weights with a big glass bead and a brass collar.  The swivels dont seem to matter, or I have never noticed it if it does.

I use brass with glass beads with a brass collar. My leader is never shorter than 24". It is usually around 30" to 32".
This is fished on a 7' rod.

My main line is usually a little larger in lb. test than my leader. My leaders are generally around 4' long and I tie all lines with the same knot. The rig is the old typical c-rig where you have the lead weight, bead and black/bronze swivel, nothing fancy really.

I use 14 lb silver thread for the main line then use a 12 lb Silver Thread leader. One rod I will have a two foot leader and the other one will have a three foot leader. Once the fish tell me which one they like better then both will have the same. I like to use three beads to make some noise down there. I buy a big bag of them from the clothing dept at Wal*Mart. Can't see spending the money for glass beads. I always use lead bullet weights in 3/8 oz.
