cancer from lures
« on: November 14, 2009, 09:59:08 AM »
can anybody explain to me what it is with so many jigs, lures, and rods having the phrase stating that California is linking cancer and birth defects to fishing supplies.

LOL....It's the toxic material known as lead. It's actually a poisonous compound.

It's also a very, very good reason to wash your hands after you have handled lead.

It's more on the jigs, weight and even some painted lures that use lead base paint. Not so on rods and reels.

It's also a good reason why some are banning the use of lead in some places.I don't know how i feel about it.I guess i would have to see some proof it's infecting our waters and wildlife to a great extension to start using something else.
Magic lures don't exist.

It is required by manufactures by the state of california to list these on their product even if there isn't any lead. Liberal progressivity run amuck.

Read hear for more information You will even find this warning on a shakespeare barbir or snoopy pole.

Best advice; Don’t eat it!
Lead based paints are not harmful Unless I starts to chip off and you eat it.
Heating lead, the fumes, is said to be harmful.
If your letting this warning bother you then don’t read the cautions on any of your household cleaners.
I read somewhere that fumes from WD40, when heated, produces phosgene gas.

I believe it is mostly a backdoor trick of the tree-huggers to try and put a stop to fishing or at least try and make things difficult.
