Drop-shot hooks
« on: September 02, 2008, 10:32:48 PM »
Have any of you tried the VMC, Sport Circle Hooks(size 1). I have not missed very many fish on these hooks at all this year , and the fish are hooked very well about 95% of the time too!(you will need pliers to remove the hook!) I really, really like these hooks for smaller sized keeper bass.

The model # of these hooks are 7384BN, and they are black nickel.

I broke off for the first time (on a fish) the other day which has brought me to this question...Why?  Is that size hook just for 12" to 15" persay and not for bigger fish?(if that fish was bigger, the line probably was deeper in the mouth than usual, and the fish' mouth cut the line). To short cut a whole lot of discussion, what size drop-shot hook should I use for say 16"+ fish.

I think that may be the ones I am using.

Did the hook break or the line?  Since it was the line that broke I dont think it has anything to do with the hook.  Sounds like the hook did its job.

i actually used that hook for a little while and when they get hooked up they stay on real well. i found that if the fish 'turned the wrong way' that it wouldnt hook up. keep in mind that i fish the drop shot differently than most. i use gammy split shot/drop shot hook in 1/0 or (if the bite is tough) 1. keep in mind that i fish the drop shot differently than most.
