fishing spoons
« on: July 29, 2008, 12:15:28 PM »
For all you guys out there that fish these do you have any good pointers?  I've fished spoons a few times and caught a couple but I can never actually catch fish consistantly on them.  The spoons I've been using are hopkins.  1/2-3/4oz.

Thanks for the help.  This is one lure I'm lost on.

I use casting spoons that I assemble myself.    They are the #1 bait for me for fishing the tail races below the dams.

is the type I use, and they look great in the water.   Normally I put a feathered treble on them and use a split ring and barrel swivel at the top.

I like using the ones that are about 1-1/4" long.

I cast them out and basically jig them back to the boat by lifting the rod tip up to 12 o'clock and them letting it flutter back down.

Gman, I'm as lost as you are on those jig'n spoons! I have a few of the Hopkins like yourself and a couple of old strike king diamond spoons. Yes, I too have caught only a few over the years. One reason I guess, up until lately that is, my style of fishing did not dictate using such a tool as jigging spoons. However, I'll be using my few tools at the end of this week, more than likely, since I'm going to a deep clear lake "up north" ;D, on Fri..(2 hrs. north of here) Hopefully we'll be able to locate what I'm looking for up there.
