florocarbon line
« on: January 20, 2009, 07:23:49 PM »
Which brand does everyone like I know I don't like berkley vanish I have tried it and never have liked berley lines. Never had good luck with them been using carbon pro but alittle stiff for me hard to cast with. Just wondering what others might be good. I've tried it both on bait casters and spinning reels. Thinking of trowing deep cranks with it.

I tried a few of the early flouro' out there and didin't care for them. This pasty year ;) I tried the Seaguar inVizX. I like it.
Since there are more flouro' out now. I've recently purchased the Triple Fish, like E_Bassfisher there to give it a try.

I've tried everything from Berkley 100%, p-line 100%, Vicious, Seaguar, and Bass Pro Shop.
To me for the money Bass Pro Shop Flora has the least amt of memory and is very tough. I landed a 5 lb spot on 8lb line out of the grass two weekends ago. That fish locked up 2nd place for me and my partner. So you could say I'm sold!

Check out the Triple Fish.  For the money it is hard to beat.  Especially with the sale they are having right now.   So far I am really liking it, but have just started using it.

I primarily use Berkley Vanish but I also like Seagar. Changing fishing lines from one I have trusted is like changing doctors, dentists or barbers. Makes me nervous :o ;D

Right now the two I am using are cabelas and Triple fish.  I'm slowly getting out of the cabelas and moving all to triple fish.  Great line at a great price.

Have never tried Triplefish yet,..but I've sampled a bunch of others including Pline, Carbon Pro, InvisX, Maxima, Sunline, BPS, Vanish & Trilene.  Out of that bunch,..based on my own impressions-while-fishing about strength PLUS handleability/limpness, Trilene 100% fluoro is noticibly better than the others.  Just my $.02

The Trilene 100% was what I used to use, and liked it a lot.   The Triple Fish does seem a little bit more limp though, but I have not put it through the ringer yet.

I've heard good things about the Trilene 100% but after they burned me the first time I'm real hesitant to waste $ again.  I guess I'm I bit bitter about the first go around.  Havent bought berkley line since then.

Bought some vanish.  Payed like $14 for it.

first few casts lost a nichols spinnerbait  about 6-7 dollars.

Thought it was a fluke break.  Retied a nice jerkbait.  twitch twitch.  Pop.  Broke again.

Round three was a jig. if I remember correctly.  Popped that sucker of real quick.

I inspected the line and you could see white spots in the line no matter where it was.  Take it between your hands and you could pop it real easy by just pulling it.

All this happened in less then 50 casts.  Dropped the reel in the bottom of the boat and fished with a different reel the rest of the day.  Stripped it off when I got home and never looked back.  Total cost of spool of line was about 30 bucks.  Not much money I know, but its more of a time issue.  I dont fish like I use too, and dont need problems and frustrations with my gear making the few trips I have a pain.  i've never had a problem with Pline, Triplefish, or Cabelas line that I've used since then.  I guess you can say I'm a bit line shy.

I can't believe Poof is still on the market. That line is terrible. Anyway, Seaguar Invizx for me. I love that it handles like mono. I love that it is limp and manageable. I love how it used to only cost me $12.97 but unfortunately not anymore. It's gone up to just under $16.

J4,

How would you compare the limpness between Invizx and the Trilene? I prefer limper FC over stiffer FC because I use it to drop shot primarily in 6# test. If Trilene is as limp as Invizx, I will consider trying it.

I recently bought Cajun FC in 6# test. It hasn't seen any action yet. Trying it on a whim. Hope it doesn't suck.

Trilene 100% fluorocarbon is a bit stiff.Had a birdcast every other cast with it.(got rid of it)Seems to be pretty strong and if you can control it,it might be good line.

P-line halo fluorocarbon-a bit better in control than trilene, however when you birdcast and your line "knots" you can see it on your line(turns a brighter green).I pulled in 10# carp with 10# test...stuff seemed pretty strong.I still didn't care for the fact it was still a little stiff.I might try this line again someday.

Vicious 100% fluorocarbon-I had nothing but problems with this one.It would peel like a banana about 20 feet up from my lure.I would cut off and retie...did the same thing.I won't even touch that brand name now.Highly disappointed.

P-line CXXX- extremely strong! Unfortunately it's like trying to cast wire....This like is a beast to control.Trilene isn't even this bad.

BPS fluorocarbon-Decent,strong,a little easier to use.You still gotta be careful using it,i wouldn't put this line on spinning reels.

Thanks, Carter. The only thing is that the closest BPS is over 1000 miles away and the savings would likely be eaten by shipping costs. ;D

Grim,

Thanks for your take on the trilene. I hope to hear from others too. For my needs I prefer a limp and manageable FC better suited for spinning reels for my drop shot rig.

I would be inclined to try other stiffer FC lines for my bc reels.  :)

So far of all I have tried, the Triple Fish has been the most limp and castable.  A 600yd spool of 8 lb is only $11.48 until Jan 31, very hard to beat that price.

With shipping it will run around $20.00 $8.00 to ship it. I don't know if I'd like it or not that's alot of $$ wasted if I don't like it I want something that is going to be easy to cast with I know I can buy a smaller spool but the sale on this goes off in couple of days and don't know when I'd be able to try it out

For spinning reels you don't want to go higher than 8# test or it will spring off the reel.
