Hook Sizes For Berkley And Basstrix Swimbaits
« on: February 12, 2010, 02:01:05 PM »
Hi
I live in Sweden but i like to order things from American websites from time to time.

Anyway, im buying two packs of swimbaits. One Berkley Powerbait and one Basstrix Paddle Tail Tube.
I heard the way they measure the Basstrix swimbaits is a bit different, coudl someone help me with the sizes, how long are the 4/5/6 inch ones?
Also i need hook sizes, what size hooks would you use for the Berkley or the Basstrix ones?

Thanks for any help!

I usually use a 4/0 or 5/0 for those.  Like these...

I need the specific sizes for all the swimbaits like this:
Berkley 6'':
Basstrix 4'':
Basstrix 5'':
basstrix 6'':
And the lenghts for the basstrix ones too since the measurementa are wrong

For the 4 inch I would use a 4/0 and the 5 and 6 inch I would use a 5/0 or a 6/0. Take the bait with you to the store and hold the hooks up to the swimbait and see which one works the best before you buy the hooks.

I read where BassTrix counts the tail bend as part of the length and are approximately 1/2 inch smaller than the size listed on the package according to the website I found this information on. I dont own any of the baits myself.

So the 4" would be approx. 3-1/2", the 5" would be approx. 4-1/2" and the 6" would be approx. 5-1/2", sitting idle in the package

can someone who owns a Basstrix simbait measure it? since TW says the 5 inch is 3 3/4''and Buzzbait (forum member) says the 5 inch is 4 1/2''

If TW is correct i will get the 6 inch for perch but if Buzzbait is correct then i will get the 5 inch for perch... CONFUSING

hmm, let me backtrack what I obtained....brb!

Ok, if you'll go back to TW and look at the sizes 4, 5, 6 ....the top row is scooted over to the left. Therefore what they have is a typo error. If you'll kinda shift that top line over to the right, it will show a closer measurement eventhough it's still not what I posted. What I posted came from bass tackle depot website if you want to look at it.

http://www.basstackledepot.com/basstrix-paddle-tail-tubes.aspx

See the "Note:" in red.(scroll down some to see it)

The note implies what Basstrix is saying about their own swimbaits

click the "availible size" drop box just above the "buy" button. Use what the note says about the 5 and 6 inch and apply it to those sizes.

Do a search for Basstrix contact information, maybe you can call them or e-mail them direct.

So i should be getting:
Berkley 6'' - 7/0 Hook
Basstrix 5'' - 5/0 Hook
Basstrix 4'' - 4/0 Hook

Are these hooks and swimbaits well matched up sizes? Please tell me if you would change anything on the list.

So what about a 5 inch? its sort of in the middle, does it use a 5/0 or a 6/0

You could use either a 5/0 or a 6/0 but you would better off using a 5/0 hook on a 5 inch swimbait.

I throw mine on a medium heavy spinner bait rod. If I were going to throw a bigger hard swimbait I would use a flipping stick.
