Hooks for inline spinners?
« on: December 05, 2008, 12:37:05 PM »
For those of you who like to change out inline spinner hooks, which ones do you use?

Right now i'm making a few and using owner hooks(dressed) that i got on sale from Tackle warehouse. For me to continue i'm going to have to buy them by the bundle.Cheapest i've found so far is captain hooks warehouse where i can get 100 Dress VMC's hooks for $75.That's about .71 cents a hook. They aren't owners hooks, but VMC trebles are usually my next choice.

Do you feel hooks aren't as important or are you like me and nick pick about sharp good hooks on inline spinners as well? Many people feel eagle claw hooks are just fine on inline spinners...i like to think different.

vmc hooks are very good hooks.

VMC
Owner
Diaichi
Gami's
Mustat triple grips

Those are all good and on alot of my baits.

Only thing I use Eagle Claws for is for panfish stuff.

Not on spinners but treble hooks in general, I've used both the VMC and the Eagle Claw hooks(undressed). Haven't had any problems from either one of them to be honest about it. Are the the other hooks mentioned any good?...of course they are.

Are you buying dressed hooks or are you buying the hooks and dressing them yourself?

Are the in-lines you're making similar to the Mepp's Aglia(sp?)? Just trying to understand more about what your making.

My dad used in-line spinners and had good success with them(bass fishing) for many many years. He used the Mepp's Aglia mostly (as well as others)  which had a #2 spinner and he tied his own dressing. I have a few of those myself ;D.

I'm buying them already dressed.Really don't want to get into dressing hooks just yet.

My inline spinners are exactly like mepps #4.Basically what it is. Here's a picture of one of them.My go to bait when nothing else works.

Here's the Aglia my dad and I have been so fond of ....(see photo)

The main reason he(we've) used the #2 is because of the mixed waters we have here. Where the spotted bass are, the largemouth are not too far away. It pretty much just fit both species better. While I haven't done very well on them myself  my dad has caught many a bass on them over the years! He seemed to use them most in the heat of the summer around grass when things got tough!

#2 is a bit smaller than what i am making. I'm using #4 which seems the perfect size for bass around here and also northern pikes. I might start making #5 if i decide to target northern pikes and musky.

Only reason i started making them was because there is something about that green color in the middle of all that silver. That color single handed me a limit of 5 bass and over 40 crappies, plus a few bluegills and 1 white bass in a single outing 2 years ago. That was until i lost the lure to a snag.I believe it was a panther martin. They stopped making that spinner with the green color body. Why? i have no clue. :(

Funny thing is i cannot find that green spot on any lure...so i simply decided to start making my own. So the addiction begins.....

Trebles: VMC is the best bang for buck and performance. You can get about 25 trebles for about $5-6.00. For that size spinner, a size 6 would be alright and possibly 4. No one can beat VMC in the bang for the buck and performance. After all, they're hooks worthy enough for Rapala to use as stock hooks.

VMC all the way! Either those or the Mustad Triple Grips.

I have used others from Owner and Gammy, and they are also very good, but bang for the buck... bang for the buck, without sacrificing anything.

That's the answer i needed!  ;D

Right now i can get owner hooks for .99 cent(2 per pack) at tackle warehouse,so until that deal ends I'll switch to VMC.
