How much should I ask?
« on: July 23, 2009, 04:25:29 PM »
Red has offered to buy me a couple of new toys, one of which is a new Tmotor.  It will be a newer version of what I have.  Mine is a MG TE 82 with a 45" shaft in good working order.  I just don't knot what I could get for it.

Any ideas?

Jig Man, look at BPS site to see what they sell it for. Then, consider the shape yours is in and set your price accordingly. For example, if it is in excellent shape maybe ask $50-$75 less than what it costs new. Just an idea but you get the point.  ;) Good luck.

Caveat,..I normally price my stuff to "sell" and I tend to price stuff low enough so that I'm not going to feel that bad if it needs some repair work a few months after I sell it!!
So, with that in mind and assuming that it's at least a few years old,..I'd be looking to get about half of what a new (equivalent) one goes for.  Bear in mind that you're selling it without any kind of warranty,..so IMO you shouldn't be expecting anything near what a new one costs.  That's just my $.02 about stuff like this.

2 things though,....if you don't actually need the money I would suggest holding onto it, since sooner or later your brand new one will need to be repaired and if you still have the old one,..you can avoid any down-time! ;)
The second thing is that with as much as you like to fish when it's windy,..I would suggest getting a longer shaft on that new motor to help keep it in the water on the "bouncy" days! 8)
If you're a fisherman, ya gotta fish!

You make some very good points there bud.  I was thinking more like 30% of the price of a new one including shipping.

As for keeping it around, I have more stored stuff than the law allows right now and Red has already said that she can't see me keeping anything that big in the way. ::)
