How to read GLoomis rods
« on: January 23, 2009, 12:37:12 PM »
This question pops up time to time so is how to read it.

The first two are the series of thier rod.  The R is for Rod.  The first two numbers are length and the last number is the power of the rod.

BSR852

Bass Spinning Rod 85" 2power

MBR844 MAg bass rod 84" 4pwer

CBR844 crankbait rod 84" 4power (I think I made that one up)

SJR844 Spinning Jig Rod 84" 4 power.

Remember though your power in one series isnt always the same as in another series. A 4 power in a popping rod is no where close to a BCR 4 power

88 is the length,  the 2 is the power.  They make a casting in that rod so the S is spinning and the C is casting.

Thanks Gman!

My main question here is what is the IM rating for Gloomis rods.

Whats the difference in IMX and GLX as far as the graphite goes?

Is a bronzeback rod made of a different material than the IMX or GLX?

I just talked to Loomis.

The GLX is a lighter more sensitive graphite then the imx.  Plus the guides are different.

The Mossybacks are a blend of graphite materials to acheive the tapers that are designed for that line.  It isnt an Imx with a different name from what loomis said.  I would think this would go along with all the other newer series rods like the Smallmouth rods except GLX series.

IMO the the mossyback is a great rod.  If your looking for a rod in the IMX class with a bit different taper you cant go wrong with them.  The store I work at PT we sell quite a few of them over th MBR's now.  Its a good feeling rod.

I've never seen a loomis use a IM rating except years ago.  I dont think they do that.

Yea I don't think they do, because if people realized that their GLX is really an IM8, people might hesitate to buy a $375 Gloomis over a $130 Shimano or All-star of the same IM rating.

(not saying its an IM8 just an example)
